Les Lucioles

LES LUCIOLES
A student short film based on the tragic true story of the Radium Girls

In 1922, New Jersey it's Mollie's first day at Dickinson's dial factory. When Mollie makes a mistake, all the women are forced to work longer hours to make up for it, causing them to miss the ball they had planned to attend. As the evening progresses, they begin to recreate the ball inside the factory...

I had the opportunity to be involved in the entire production of a 3D short film alongside a talented team over the course of a year and a half.. We're truly grateful that the film has been recognized with a few awards and selected by several festivals.

Team: Loïs Angilella, Ambre Fournier, Clémentine Gabard, Hannah Gozlan, Claire Represa, Emilie Richard, Mathieu Staropoli, Maïa Xueref, Léa Faynel

Research & script

I researched the Radium Girls and their working conditions, using sources such as The Radium Girls by Kate Moore to maintain historical accuracy throughout the film.

This groundwork also helped the group stay aligned during scriptwriting and character development.

Character development

I was heavily involved in writing the script, developing the characters and their dialogues. I also contributed to researching their visual design.

Here’s Mollie, our main character. She is young and inexperienced but hides a true strength of character.

From Storyboard to Animatic

I was fully engaged in this stage, contributing to the model-making, filming of reference scenes, and storyboard development. It was a collaborative process, and I took great care to help build a coherent and well-timed animatic.

Layout, Animation & Post-production

I worked with two other animators to animate the film’s shots. I helped direct the actors to bring subtlety to the animations. I made sure everything stayed consistent from the script to the final animation. I also handled the editing to keep the timing precise and smooth.

I also acted out the reference footage for my animations. Here’s Irene!
